Vaude make superb rainproof gear. I've got some large red panniers that I'd be taking touring if we didn't have the car in support. Totally waterproof and ready for everything the British weather can throw at me for two weeks.

Old kit #1 - vaude rain jacket
I bought this rain jacket a few years ago, and am still totally in love with it. Since ive been cycling I've owned a few rain jackets and with time I'm learnt from my mistakes. This jacket is very light, breathable (properly breathable, some descriptions of breathable jackets are somewhat optimistic) and its a very bright colour so you can be seen safely in low light. Although it is described as red, its really a vibrant orange. Best of all it can be stuffed up into a really small bag and at a push it'll go in my saddle pack or in my back pocket (less comfortable).
